INSPECTOR SCOTT THOMPSON
DISTRICT ONE COMMANDER

I want to welcome you and our guests, Mr. Wynne Powell, the CEO of London Drugs, and Valarie MacLean of the Vancouver Police Foundation to the Vancouver Police Mounted Unit. I also want to acknowledge North Command Superintendent Andy Hobbs of the VPD who is also here today.

The Mounted Unit has been a fixture in Vancouver and Stanley Park since 1909. The horses and police officers of the Mounted Unit patrol the park, but they also engage the public and engage in youth outreach.

Mounted Squad Benefits from London Drugs’ Love

As one of the businesses affected by the June 15 Stanley Cup riots, London Drugs was keen to find a way to acknowledge the Vancouver Police Department and the officers who helped their staff to safety that night.

The company recognized the goodwill amongst Vancouver’s citizens and quickly launched an in-store fundraising program with two ways for its customers to get involved: donations at all its Vancouver store cashiers and the sale of “I Love Vancouver” T-shirts.

Through the initiative, the company raised $7,000 and asked that the funds be directed to the VPD’s Mounted Squad.

The funds will be put to good use purchasing two horses and a power washer for the barn. In honour of the donor, the Mounted Squad has announced that they will be naming one of the new horses “London” (he is the horse on the right).

We thank London Drugs for their support.

London Drugs Spreads a Little Love

As one of the businesses affected by the June 15 Stanley Cup riots, London Drugs was keen to find a way to acknowledge the Vancouver Police Department and the officers who helped their staff to safety that night.

The company recognized the goodwill amongst Vancouver’s citizens and quickly launched an in-store fundraising program with two ways for its customers to get involved: donations at all its Vancouver store cashiers and the sale of “I Love Vancouver” T-Shirts.

“We created these (I Love Vancouver) shirts because we [knew] the citizens of Vancouver [felt] the need to express pride in the city and there is no better cause to ensure Vancouver stays safe, than to support the Vancouver Police Foundation,” said Wynne Powell, London Drugs president and CEO.

Through the initiative, the company raised $7,000. We thank them for their support!
