Directly or indirectly, crime affects us all.

Maybe you or someone you know has been the victim of a crime. Maybe your car has been broken into in a downtown parking lot. Maybe you’ve worried about your children being victimized in a nightclub or bar. You might have had to upgrade your security system or hire a private security company to protect your business. You might pay higher insurance premiums to offset the cost of property crime. Or maybe you have lost business to other, ‘safer’ cities.

Despite the VPD’s significant progress towards making Vancouver Canada’s safest major city, violent crime and property crime continue to affect Vancouver’s citizens.

Finding solutions to these persistent problems requires the creativity and passion of the VPD’s officers. It requires enabling them to try new things and engage the community in new ways.

But the reality is that taxpayer dollars can only go so far. The City of Vancouver funds all the basic necessities for the operation of a police department, but its budget doesn’t have much room for pilot projects, cutting edge equipment, and innovative, untested policing ideas.

The policing solutions for tomorrow won’t come from yesterday’s ideas. They will come from new thinking. That is where the VPF and its funding comes in – we find the money to support the things the VPD would do if it could.

The Foundation is governed by a Board of Trustees which is solely responsible for governance, operations and the election of directors. Members may participate in informational update meetings, held regularly.
