The VPD recently hosted a Mental Readiness Program for the Community Policing Centres volunteers. Funded by the Vancouver Police Foundation, the event was a huge success! It was the first ever CPC volunteer training symposium on this important topic.
Deputy Chief Lawrence Rankin opened the event and he was followed by five amazing speakers: Dr. Bill MacEwan, Inspector Lynn Noftle, Constable Bryan Nykon, Sergeant Clive Milligan (retired) and Constable Garett MacDonald. Guests learned about self-care, conflict resolution, engagement (verbal judo and body language), mental health and addiction and much more.
The venue could hold 110 people and 107 attended: 97% attendance rate! Feedback was received after the event and the consensus was that it was the best training event the volunteers have ever attended.
The attendees were already pitching ideas for new training topics for the future and they were ready to use their new skills right away.
The Foundation would like to send a special shout-out to Austeville Properties who supported this initiative…thank you!!
