The Vancouver Police Foundation (VPF) has made a groundbreaking pledge to public safety, with a commitment to fund more than 118 VPD officer-led community programs and initiatives in 2025, totaling more than $5.6 million. This unprecedented investment significantly surpasses the previous record of $3.6 million granted in 2024.
“These 118 programs will have an immediate and direct impact on public and personal safety, crime prevention and connecting our incredible police service with the community it serves,” explains David Sung, Chair of the Board of Trustees for the VPF.
This also marks the fourth consecutive year that the Vancouver Police Foundation has set a new funding record, which has enabled both the addition and growth of dozens of impactful community initiatives that are all spearheaded by dedicated VPD officers and civilian professionals.
VPD Officers Going Above & Beyond
Behind each of these 118 funded initiatives are dedicated VPD officers and VPD civilian professionals who witness firsthand the challenges and gaps in Vancouver’s neighbourhoods. Inspired by their daily experiences, they seek ways to support vulnerable communities and individuals—including children, women, and seniors—through targeted outreach and prevention programs.
The VPF invites these officers to apply for funding, allowing them to turn their ideas and concerns into tangible, solution-oriented initiatives. This year, the VPF received 82 grant applications from VPD officers and civilian staff – 20 more applications than any previous year.
“With some of the challenges facing our city, it can be easy to focus on the negative and overlook the positive,” says Sung. “The Vancouver Police Foundation is proud to support the ideas of VPD officers and civilian professionals, who each day go above and beyond to make our city safer for all and to provide help, assistance and support to those in need.”
All successful program grants fall under one of the VPF’s three streams of support: Community Outreach and Engagement, Public and Personal Safety (including crime prevention), and Equipment & Technology. Additionally, all VPF grants fund programs that fall outside the regular operating budget of the Vancouver Police Department (VPD), ensuring additional resources are available to address emerging community needs.
From empowering women around their personal safety, to youth education on drugs, to community arts and sports engagement programs, to fraud prevention for seniors and outreach in communities like Chinatown and the DTES, the VPF’s grants help facilitate meaningful change across Vancouver.
Supporting Officers’ Efforts to Make a Difference
The VPF’s ability to provide this record-setting level of funding is made possible through the generosity of donors. Their contributions empower officers to launch, sustain and grow their impactful initiatives that reach thousands of residents each year.
“We are so proud to be able to support this record-breaking number of programs, but would not be able to commit to so many without our exceptional community of donors,” explains Andrea Wright, Executive Director of the Vancouver Police Foundation.
“Their generosity is what enables us to support the ideas of the VPD’s amazing officers and civilian professionals, who not only have chosen careers in public service, but continue to give beyond their day jobs. We thank those individuals and the amazing donors who make this possible.”
A Legacy of Making Vancouver a Safer City for All
Since its inception in 1976, the Vancouver Police Foundation has granted more than $21 million to over 330 innovative programs that go beyond the VPD’s annual budget. For 49 years, the Foundation has played a critical role in funding initiatives that help save lives, prevent crime, and build safer neighborhoods throughout the city.
With a renewed commitment to community investment in 2025, the VPF continues to stand alongside the Vancouver Police Department in its mission to create a safer and more resilient Vancouver.
