Public & Personal Safety

Public and personal safety initiatives are developed by VPD members who see firsthand where support is needed. Funding from the VPF helps bring their ideas to life, making Vancouver safer for all.

In 2025, the Vancouver Police Foundation has committed $2.1 million to support officer-led programs that enhance public and personal safety across Vancouver.

Your Impact

See some examples of the programs your gift will impact below.

You Matter

The You Matter program brings officers and youth together through structured workshops focused on preventing sexual-based crimes. By sharing their knowledge and skills, officers aim to empower young people to recognize harmful behaviours, make informed choices and build healthy, respectful relationships with their peers.

Women’s Personal Safety Team

Since 2013, the VPD Women’s Personal Safety Team, made up of dedicated female officers, has been empowering women to take charge of their personal safety. Through free workshops, participants learn simple, effective tactics to use if faced with unavoidable violence, no prior training required

Strathcona Bike Smart

The VPD Strathcona Bike Smart Program is a free initiative that teaches local children aged 5 to 12 essential bike safety skills and rules of the road. Made possible through funding from the Vancouver Police Foundation, the program also provides safety gear, healthy snacks and lunch for participants and up to two family members.
