Technology & Equipment

While the Vancouver Police Foundation does not fund essential policing services or equipment, we are able to help the VPD access state-of-the-art technology and equipment that increases public safety, saves lives, and prevents crime.

We focus on requests for equipment that support VPD’s efforts to build bridges with the community and occasion we consider requests for equipment on a pilot basis, giving VPD the opportunity to test new and important tools before they make it part of their regular operations.

In 2025 we’ve proudly granted $906,640 to programs and initiatives that use unique equipment and valuable technology to help make Vancouver safer for everyone.

Canine Unit Training Equipment

With support from the Vancouver Police Foundation, the VPD Canine Unit has access to enhanced training, state-of-the-art protective equipment for both handlers and Police Service Dogs, and specialized tools to help keep the team safe, healthy and ready for duty. This funding ensures the unit can continue to operate at the highest level while protecting the public and each other.

VPD Marine Unit

The new R.G. McBeath is a purpose-built police vessel designed to meet the demanding needs of the Vancouver Police Department’s Marine Unit. Engineered for safety, speed and stability in challenging conditions, the vessel will enhance the Unit’s ability to respond to emergencies, conduct marine patrols, support search and rescue operations and engage in high-risk deployments.

ICE Support Dog Sadie

AFD Sadie is assigned to the VPD’s Special Investigations Section, spending much of her time supporting officers. In addition to helping staff manage the emotional toll of their work, Sadie also supports young victims by offering a calm, comforting presence often lying or sitting beside them as they prepare or deliver victim impact statements.
