Many of you will be into the fourth week of your new year’s resolution(s). If you need any motivation to start a new health kick, or to keep up your great work, check out the Windermere Running Club for inspiration!
The Windermere Running Club provides a supportive and welcoming running environment for kids attending Windermere Secondary, regardless of individual ability or athleticism. The runners are in grades 8-12 and many of them are at-risk of either criminal involvement or victimization from their peers. The program also provides a supportive environment where students develop perseverance and overcome personal challenges together, while building new friendships along the way.
The Windermere Running Club has been extremely busy training twice a week for races before classes start. Some notable races the Club has completed include the 10km Granville Island Turkey Trot and the 5km Fall Classic Race at UBC. They are currently training for the BMO Half Marathon and Jasper Canadian Rockies Half Marathon in the spring.
The Club is growing in number and has expanded to 48 students from Windermere and this year, from their catchment elementary school, Renfrew. Keep up the great work and best of luck in the upcoming half marathons!
The Vancouver Police Foundation is proud to support the Windermere Running Club and other youth programs in the city.
