PPE (personal protective equipment) has never been in greater demand. For those of us frustrated that we can’t get liquid soap or hand sanitizer for ourselves and our families, imagine the concern of those looking out for our first responders. While the VPD has enacted pandemic protocols to keep its officers safe, there are times when up-close, personal contact happens. The stress on officers and their families is extraordinary.
It is why the extremely generous outpouring of support from our community has been overwhelming in recent weeks. Not only have people and companies stepped up with donations of PPE, but there have been donations of food and comfort items for all the front line VPD members keeping us safe.
One partnership we’d especially like to highlight is that of Metropolitan Fine Printers and the Mark James Group. With hand sanitizer in high demand, Bob Faulkner and Mark James, friends for over 40 years, have come together to start making some. In business for over 40 years, Metropolitan has operational requirements for two key ingredients – glycerine and hydroxide. They were just missing the final key ingredient – alcohol. And that’s where the Mark James Group/Yaletown Distilling Company stepped in. In the past two weeks, these two organizations have produced 4,000 bottles of hand sanitizer, donated to VGH and the VPD. They are planning to make more and continue supporting front line workers.
In addition to the hand sanitizer, Bob and Metropolitan Fine Printers have partnered with another organization to make 500 face masks for VPD members. And by the time you read this, VPD will likely need more.
We’d like to thank the amazing companies that have stepped up recently with generous donations – Star Limousine, Brightlight Pictures, Sparkmouth, Blue Monkey, Century Plaza Hotel, McCarthy Uniforms, IGG, Martinis Pizza, Lee’s Donuts, Hudson Pacific Properties, Western Coast Resources and more.

THANK YOU to our entire community for your generosity, big hearts and for stepping up – even when you are facing your own challenges. Let’s support these amazing organizations and #buylocal.
