For police officers, no two days are the same. This is especially true for the men and women on the front lines in patrol operations – they are responding to people in need, people in crisis, crimes in progress and more.
It is one of the reasons why potential police officers must pass both a comprehensive screening and application process followed by intensive studies and training at the Police Academy.
Part of the application process includes a physical test – the Police Officers’ Physical Abilities Test – which is a gruelling, three part obstacle course, meant to mimic some of the situations in which officers may find themselves during their careers.
What does this have to do with RBC, you ask?
RBC Foundation has been a key supporter and generous donor to the VPD Cadet program for the past three years, and recently renewed another two-year commitment to the program!
Instead of doing a traditional “big cheque” presentation to thank RBC Foundation for their incredible leadership when it comes to supporting youth across the country, we pitched them a radical idea – try the POPAT and “compete” against the VPD Cadets.
We didn’t really think they would say yes. But, to our surprise, there was significant interest from RBC. On Saturday, November 2nd, TEAM RBC, plus a number of sideline “cheerleaders”, the VPD Cadets and Instructors participated in one of the most challenging physical tests anyone will face.
Each team member took one of the three POPAT elements and wow, were they amazing!! Cheering from the sideline was also VPF Executive Director Andrea Wright, Director of Fundraising and Donor Relations, Neil McEachern.
After TEAM RBC and three VPD Cadet teams completed the course, we stopped so the participants could catch their breath! During that break, we had an opportunity to formally thank RBC Foundation for their amazing generosity and support. On hand with remarks from RBC was Aida Etminan, Relationship Manager, Public Sector & Not for Profit.
Thank you RBC Foundation – for all that you do and for being so brave and for being such great sports! A fun afternoon was had by all and it’s one none of us will soon forget.
