Meet the VPF Board!

The Vancouver Police Foundation recently held its annual general meeting, and we are delighted to announce that Dr. Sherri Magee is the new Board Chair. She replaces outgoing Chair John Montalbano, who has served as Chair for the past two years. John will remain on the Board as past-Chair and will continue to lend his incredible expertise in finance, philanthropy and community engagement.

Dr. Magee is the first female Chair of the Vancouver Police Foundation Board. She recently stepped off the Vancouver Police Board, completing her six-year term as Vice-Chair. Dr. Magee is an independent oncology researcher who has been working in the field of cancer survivorship and recovery for the past twenty-seven years. Dr. Magee is a well-known community leader who has spent the last several decades volunteering on Boards of organizations throughout Vancouver that are dedicated to improving the well-being of the city for all and that focus on helping those most vulnerable and marginalized in our community. Dr. Magee is deeply knowledgeable about the VPF, as she has been on the Board for the past four years as the Vancouver Police Board’s liaison to the Police Foundation. We are thrilled to have her join us as Chair.

The VPF wishes to thank Gurdeep Bains and Praveen Varshney for their service and commitment over the past few years as their terms have now expired. We are also excited to welcome three new Trustees – Dr. Amin Shivji, CEO of 123Dentist, Dale Boniface, President & CEO of Give Canada and David Sung, Managing Director of Nicola Wealth Management.

Dr. Amin Shivji is the Founder of 123Dentist, the largest network of dental practices in the Lower Mainland, and the Co-Founder & CEO of 123Dentist Inc., a national platform of dental practices offering dentists uniquely tailored partnership and transition options. Since its launch in July 2017, 123Dentist’s national platform has exceeded growth expectations by partnering with successful dentists across Canada.

Dale Boniface is recognized in Canada for his leadership success in achieving multi-million dollar corporate partnerships, strategic alliances, and transformational leadership gifts that empower the work of diverse organizations, including not-for-profit educational and health organizations.

As President of Nicola Wealth, David Sung helps lead the company in its commitment to achieving unsurpassed client satisfaction through the delivery of the highest quality investment management and financial planning services for business owners, corporate executives, foundations and other individuals or entities of substantial income and/or assets.

We are delighted to welcome Dale, Amin and David and their respective areas of expertise.

The Vancouver Police Foundation was established in 1976 to support the Vancouver Police Department’s efforts to promote community well-being, prevent crime and increase public safety.

A registered charity, governed by an independent, volunteer Board of Trustees, the VPF funds innovative programs led by VPD officers. Since 1976, the Foundation has granted over $10 million to initiatives that help to build a strong, vibrant community and to support those who are most vulnerable. Foundation funding is for programs and technology that fall outside of the VPD’s regular operating budget from the City of Vancouver. These programs fall into four funding pillars – youth programs; mental health and addiction; community engagement; and specialized equipment and technology – innovative new technology that requires proof of concept and equipment that helps build bridges with the community.

The Vancouver Police Foundation supports programs and initiatives that fall under one of four pillars: Youth Programs, Mental Health & Addictions, Community Outreach & Engagement, and Technology & Special Equipment. You can help build a safer Vancouver by donating to the Vancouver Police Foundation.
